28 September 2012—The British Columbia Law Institute hosted its Annual General Meeting on 19 September 2012. The productive meeting brought together the Institute’s members from across the province, and laid the foundation for another year of comprehensive law reform work in British Columbia.

Following the AGM, the following changes to the BCLI executive and board of directors have been implemented:

  • We welcome R.C. (Tino) Di Bella as the new Chair of the British Columbia Law Institute. Mr. Di Bella will bring his expertise in law and aging, personal planning, finance and governance, and land use to his new position on the executive. His involvement with BCLI projects, his practical experience and his community presence will serve us well in this new position.
  • We also welcome Professor Joost Blom, Q.C. as the new Vice Chair of the British Columbia Law Institute. Professor Blom’s long-standing membership on the BCLI board as a Member at Large, and well as his many years of experience as Dean and professor at the UBC Faculty of Law, will serve him well on the BCLI executive.
  • Lisa A. Peters, who has been a Member at Large since 2010, will continue on in her position as Treasurer. Ms. Peters, as the head of Lawson Lundell LLP’s legal research and opinions department, continues to be a valued member to the BCLI executive.
  • BCLI Staff Lawyer Kevin Zakreski will continue to serve on the BCLI executive as Secretary.
  • Ending his term as an appointed member by the Law Society of British Columbia, Peter Ramsay, Q.C., former Chair of the executive, continues with the BCLI as a Member at Large. Mr. Ramsay will continue to support the Institute with his many years of practical experience in the fields of wills and estates, torts, trusts, real property, and professional responsibility.
  • Ending his term as a Member at Large, Arthur Close, Q.C., continues with the BCLI as a Member Emeritus. The passionate and distinguished Mr. Close was BCLI’s first executive director, spearheaded the creation of the Canadian Centre for Elder Law, and has devoted his career to law reform.

“I am honoured to be given this opportunity to hold this position on the BCLI executive,” said BCLI’s new Chair, Tino Di Bella, “I look forward to working with the dedicated and hardworking executive, board, and staff to assure that BCLI remains on the forefront of law reform research, writing, publication and outreach.”

A full list of directors is available on the BCLI website.
