Courthouse Libraries: Gender Diversity in Legal Writing Workshop

This 1.5hr workshop will look at ways to make legal writing more gender-inclusive. Drawing on the BC Law Institute’s recently published guide on Gender Diversity in Legal Writing: Pronouns, Honorifics, and Gender-Inclusive Techniques, this presentation will cover:
• How legal professionals can use the Guide to transition to more gender-inclusive writing;
• A review of common terms and misconceptions; and
• Practical writing tips when writing about people.
This session is designed for lawyers, legal advocates, paralegals and anyone else looking to transition their legal writing skills to be more inclusive. Participants will have an opportunity to work through practical examples.
The presentation will be led by Alison Wilkinson, Lawyer with the BC Law Institute & Canadian Centre for Elder Law.
Participants may claim up to 1.5hrs of CPD with the LSBC.
