Who should attend: Lawyers who practise in the areas of elder law and wills, estates and trusts law. This course may also be of interest to lawyers, notaries, and other professionals who represent older clients and adults living with disabilities.
Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced
This half-day session will cover elder law topics relevant to the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The course will include panels on capacity to instruct counsel for clients living with dementia and other cognitive and communication challenges, class action litigation as a strategy for responding to elder abuse and neglect in long-term care, and criminal and civil responses to elder abuse and neglect.
After taking this program, you will:
- understand capacity to instruct counsel for clients with dementia
- be aware of class action litigation strategies
- gain knowledge of how to represent clients impacted by abuse and neglect
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 3.5 hours (this course will contain a minimum of .5 hours pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
