										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>British Columbia Law Institute congratulates two former project committee volunteers on &nbsp;being appointed Queen’s counsel on December 10, 2018 – Russell Charles Gordon and Mary Bridget Hamilton.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Charles Gordon is a senior partner at Koskie Glavin Gordon, practising in the areas of labour, human rights and administrative law. Previously, he was an in-house labour counsel and was senior counsel to the British Columbia Labour Relations Board. He is the former president of the CBABC labour section and is a member of the advisory committee for the Queen’s University Centre for Law in the Contemporary Workplace and a member of the British Columbia Law Institute’s recent <a href="https://www.bcli.org/project/employment-standards-act-reform-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Employment Standards Act Reform Project</a> committee. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Mary Hamilton is a partner with Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP. She served as the chair of the Vancouver wills and estates section of CBABC and has contributed to numerous law reform initiatives.&nbsp; She sat on the Succession Law Reform project committee and chaired that project’s subcommittee on Estate Administration.&nbsp; The committee’s work was released in a 2006 Report &nbsp;<a href="https://www.bcli.org/project/wills-estates-and-succession-modern-legal-framework" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wills, Estates and Succession: A Modern Legal Framework</a> and led to BC’s new Wills, Estates and Succession Act which came into force in 2014. She has also given pro bono workshops on estate planning through the Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) to families of people with disabilities.</p>
<p>The appointment was announced by Attorney General David Eby who congratulated each recipient on the designation noting that “he QC appointment is a very special honour that denotes a superb record of achievement and commitment to our province’s legal system. Your valuable work is helping to make British Columbia a stronger and more equitable place to live.”</p>
