In Memoriam: Remembering the Hon. Flora MacDonald, O.C.

The British Columbia Law Institute and the Canadian Centre for Elder Law would like to express sympathy to the family, friends, and colleagues of the Honourable Flora MacDonald, O.C.. Flora MacDonald, who passed on July 26th, was a Distinguished Fellow at the Canadian Centre for Elder Law and a keynote speaker at the 2005 Canadian Conference on Elder Law.

“Flora MacDonald’s legacy is one of selfless service,” said Executive Director Kathleen Cunningham. “Her commitment to the betterment of the lives of others, both in Canada and in her work abroad, will never be forgotten.”

Flora MacDonald served as a distinguished Parliamentarian from 1972 to 1988 and held a number of significant ministerial portfolios. She worked closely with non-governmental organizations nationally and internationally, and was widely recognized as a leader in issues of peace, health, and humanitarianism. Flora MacDonald was co-chair of Canada’s national committee for its participation in the International Year of Older Persons (IYOP) in 1999.
